We encourage you to be creative and write your own story, from your own point of view. Here's a sample template to inspire you with a format you can start with, and some facts to think about.

For anyone not participating in the contest, feel free to copy a letter directly from this template -- we need all the support we can get, and signing your name on a letter shows you support this skatepark.

I am writing in support of the Republic Skatepark Project.

The City of Republic is the county seat of Ferry County, located in the remote mountains of Northeast Washington State.

Ferry County currently has no skateparks. The City of Republic is bisected by a busy State highway. Bicycling and skateboarding on city sidewalks is illegal. This is a formula that puts area youth at risk of injury and discourages healthy outdoor activity.

Ferry County frequently has the highest unemployment rate in Washington and is consistently listed as the least healthy county in the State.

Positive points:

A skatepark will build community and be a positive asset to ensure that our area youth can thrive.
Recreational tourism is on the uptick and the park will provide another draw for visitors.
A skatepark ranked highly in comprehensive recreation surveys conducted by the Confederated Tribes of the Colville and Ferry County.
The proposed location across from the Republic School complex is ideal, and offers a safe and convenient location with good visibility.
The location is adjacent to the Golden Tiger Pathway trailhead, which connects to the Ferry County Rail Trail, a 30-mile, off-highway trail that connects four towns and two school complexes.
The skatepark support group has raised over $15,000 and the property has been donated, providing the required matching funds for the grant.
The entire project will be designed, constructed, and maintained without using City or County resources.
